Human emotion is often the difference between performance mediocrity and performance mastery.
It can be a world of conflict, intolerance, hostility and entropy. This world is too often your (inner) world…the one that makes you or breaks you; where you face busier schedules, time limitations, poor choices and greater and greater expectations. How you deal with these issues will determine your performance levels and endurance, to run the big race and keep your head and shoulders above the rest. It’s competitive and you owe it to yourself to pace yourself, create balance and focus on the long term, by being present. This…we’ll discover together.
Emotion often stands between the information that enters your mind and the decision making that steers you forward. Two and a half times faster than your “strategic brain” can process information, your “emotional brain” receives the input…giving you time to over-process and over-think simple and complex tasks and decisions. In the end…you are left standing still.
So what’s it to be: a life of excess thoughts and rumination, or a calmer mind and greater possibility?
When it comes to performance getting bogged down is akin to throwing out the anchor when you’re ready to set sail. Worry, uncertainty, fear and apathy hold you back and you are left treading in the same spot you were 1 year, 2 years, 5 years….ago. It takes peak physical, physiological and mental performance to meet and exceed your goals. If not, you are embarking on a road of mediocrity, rather than excellence,
You create your path, it’s not created for you. Whether you’re content swimming with the current or against the tide…it’s your choice. The former is the mindset of mediocrity; the latter…the mindset of the champion, and everyone deserves to champion themselves.
What I recommend is swimming against the current, re-creating and re-defining yourself, based on your innate desires rather than someone else’s expectations of you. In upcoming blogs we are going to work on re-creating and re-defining you, so that you are in control and healthily and successfully swimming against the current. It’s a great place to be…I thrive on it and I want it for you.
